best baseball bat for 10 year old

Batting is the best part of baseball, especially for youth players like 10-year-olds. As a result, many parents do everything possible to help their kids become excellent hitters. It often leads to them looking for the best baseball bat for 10 year old players.

However, these parents often run into problems with the number of available options. It can even be overwhelming to people who have previous experience buying baseball bats. So it would stand to reason that they would look online for a detailed and helpful guide.

I intend to offer this guide by showing readers the entire buying process. It’ll help them understand what they need to look for in a high-quality baseball ball. Here’s a quick preview of some key factors discussed in our thorough buying guide:

  • Weight: Selecting the perfect baseball bat weight can greatly affect a 10-year-old’s swing and batting performance. So it’s essential to test out several weights to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Grip: The best baseball bats will offer a comfortable grip. Look for options made from leather and featuring a durable end cap. These aspects should present a level of comfort most other choices can’t match.
  • Length: A baseball bat’s length will impact how well batters can reach outside pitches. But it can’t be so long that the batter can’t swing it effectively. Therefore, it’d be best to choose options with a length that reaches the kid’s hip.

But these discussions and our buying guide aren’t the only resources available to readers. I’ve also compiled and reviewed 11 of my favorite bats for 10 year olds. These resources should provide more than enough information to select the perfect bat.

Top 10 Baseball Bat for 10-Year-Old Reviews

1. Easton ‎A11294129 RIVAL USA Youth Bat

Most parents should not overlook Easton’s ‎A11294129 RIVAL USA Youth Bat when choosing a 10u baseball bat. It has several appealing features perfect for youth baseball players, such as its long-lasting, durable alloy construction.

Honestly, I was very impressed with how well-built it seemed when unpacking it. It’s nice not to worry about scuff marks or paint chipping like other options, such as Easton’s ‎YBB22SPD10 SPEED USA Baseball Bat.

My 10-year-old nephew didn’t have any issues swinging the bat, either. It has a solid drop weight of -10 to ensure a stable length/weight distribution. Therefore, this bat is quite lightweight to promote faster swinging performance when at the plate.

But this product isn’t only available in a 10u bat size as it has six options. They range from 26 inches to 31 inches, with a -10 drop for each choice. So any little league or teenager should find a size best suited for their needs without issue.

I also have to note its 2 ¼” barrel, which offers a large sweet spot for better power. My nephew even managed to hit his first homerun using this baseball bat. Furthermore, it won’t have any issues being used in most little leagues with its USA bat certification stamp.

Heads-up:  As for its flaws, some customers did note some cases of late shipping, but those were isolated issues..

  • Long-lasting, durable alloy construction, no scuff marks or chips
  • Drop weight of -10 for excellent length and weight distribution
  • Suitable for various buyers with six size options (26″ to 31″)
  • Promotes better power with a two ¼” barrel
  • Equipped with a USA baseball stamp certification
  • Late shipping issues
Bottom Line:  Overall, it’s hard to complain about this USA bat for 10 year old players. It checks off most of the qualities that any parent wants in a bat. Plus, those shipping complaints were only in a few reviews, so I wouldn’t put much stock in them.

2. Rawlings USZR10 Raptor USA Baseball Bat

The Rawlings USZR10 Raptor USA Baseball Bat represents an ideal option for a 10 year old boy or girl. The bat earns this distinction because Rawling built it for this demographic. It was designed to specifically help 10-year-old and younger baseball players perform better at the plate.

For instance, it comes with a reliable construction made from aluminum alloy. This aspect will allow the bat to remain usable for years without issues. My nephew even swung it against the side of a barn, and no damage was done, which was shocking.

I was also delighted by this product’s striking blue/green design. It’ll make a younger player stand out among their teammates. Moreover, it’ll give them a little more style at the plate than other blander bats for youth baseball like TRUE TEMPER’s USA Youth Baseball Bat.

Another highlight was this bat’s large x-tended sweet spot with a two ¼ barrel. It gives players much more power on their swings. Due to this, it should help kids turn what would usually be a single into a double or even a home run.

It doesn’t only affect their power, as this product should improve swing speed. After all, it offers a drop of -10 to produce an ultra-lightweight and comfortable feel. I can’t imagine many 10-year-olds having much trouble swinging this bat quickly and effectively.

Heads-up:  But I did notice a misleading piece of information in the product’s description. It labels the bat’s material as composite when it’s clearly constructed from aluminum alloy.

  • Built explicitly for 10-year-olds and younger
  • Reliable construction made from aluminum alloy
  • Striking blue and green design
  • Large x-tended sweet spot with a two ¼” barrel
  • Promotes quicker swing speed with -10 drop
  • Misleading product description
Bottom Line:  However, I wouldn’t let a slightly misleading product description keep me from buying this bat. Its reliable construction and appealing design alone are too much to overlook. But I could see how this one issue might throw off someone else.

3. Easton ‎YBB22SPD10 SPEED Baseball Bat

Many kids often struggle to get solid contact on pitches during little league baseball. However, the Easton ‎YBB22SPD10 SPEED Baseball Bat can help them with this problem. It comes with a one-piece design with a -10 drop to ensure a better contact swing.

Easton even managed to combine this impressive design with an outstanding comfort quality. It equipped the bat with a 2.2 mm grip that offers a much better feel than other options. Honestly, I could almost immediately tell the comfort level difference compared to my previous bats.

I was also delighted by the two stylish color options. Both the blue/white/green and green/black/white should be appealing choices for 11 year olds or 10-year-olds. My nephew was very drawn to the former as it meshed perfectly with his team’s colors.

Parents also won’t have to worry about replacing the bat anytime soon. Easton built this USA bat for 10-year-old leagues using aerospace-grade alloy material. Therefore, it won’t have any trouble preventing any bending issues or other structural issues.

I have to mention this product’s concave end cap, as well. This aspect will help ensure a batter has a more balanced swing. It’s another reason the bat model should promote better contact than other available baseball bats.

Heads-up:  However, the bat’s paint does chip a bit too easily. It was an issue mentioned within a few customer reviews, so it’s something to think about before making a final decision.

  • One-piece design with -10 drop provides better contact
  • Comfort feel via 2.2 mm grip
  • Two stylish color options (blue/white/green and green/black/white)
  • High-quality construction made from aerospace-grade alloy material
  • Promotes a more balanced swing with a concave end cap
  • The paint can chip easily
Bottom Line:  In the end, this paint chipping issue isn’t affecting my final buying decision too much. Its other qualities more than make this minor inconvenience worth it. Parents could certainly do much worse when buying baseball bats for 9-10 year olds.

4. Marucci MSBC810 8-10 CAT Baseball Bat

Our next option, Marucci’s MSBC810 8-10 CAT Baseball Bat, is unique compared with our other models. This bat separates itself by having a multi-variable wall design, which allows for a much larger sweet spot with its two ¾” barrel.

It’s a primary reason why this model has become one of the most popular bats for 10u travel baseball. I find it hard not to be also impressed by the bat’s anti-vibration knob. It’ll offer a much more comfortable feel, especially when batting against tougher pitchers.

This bat model doesn’t fail to excel with its overall quality, either. Marucci provided this bat with a robust and long-lasting aluminum construction for longevity. Buyers should have no problem getting multiple years out of this well-crafted baseball bat.

Moreover, it offers a wide range of use with its USSSA certification approval. Kids can use it in any little league or travel league baseball that follows USSSA rules. Therefore, it won’t have much issue meeting the needs of most parents looking for their kid’s next baseball bat.

The product’s overall versatility only increases with its five size options. It should be easy to find a usable variation for kids between 8 and 10 years old. As a result, it becomes a lot more versatile than a single-sized option like Wilson Sporting Goods’ Louisville Slugger 2019 USA Bat.

Heads-up:  On the downside, this USSSA bat for 10 year old and under leagues is one of our more expensive options. Buyers will need to decide whether its high-quality features are worth its increased price tag.

  • Multi-variable wall design provides a huge sweet spot with a two ¾” barrel
  • Promotes better feel and comfort via anti-vibration knob
  • Robust and long-lasting aluminum construction
  • USSSA certification approval
  • Five size options, ideal for 8 to 10-year-olds
  • A higher price point
Bottom Line:  In my case, I don’t see any issue with spending a little extra on high-quality products. Considering its multi-variable wall design, this youth baseball bat certainly fits that description. It’s hard to see how this bat wouldn’t improve a kid’s batting performance.

5. Rawlings ‎US1511-29 2022 USA Youth Bat

Parents would be doing their kids a massive disservice by overlooking Rawlings’s ‎US1511-29 2022 USA Youth Bat. It’s one of the more balanced bats with the ability to offer more contact and power.

The primary reason for this more enhanced contact and power is its two ⅝” big barrel design. It won’t have any trouble helping a 10-year-old get the most out of their swings. In fact, it was an aspect that multiple customers took time to praise in their reviews.

I found myself intrigued by this bat’s ultra-thin handle, as well. This aspect will offer batters much more bat control and a better feel when within the batter’s box. It was one of the first things I noticed after unboxing this option from its packaging.

Of course, its beautiful black and electric blue design was another noticeable feature. It should make any kid the talk of their team’s dugout during games and practice. It made me wish that I could’ve had a similar bat back when I played baseball.

A few other notable features are its usage for all USA baseball leagues and multiple buying options. In particular, the various options are valuable as there are seven sizes and three drops to ensure finding a suitable design becomes much easier.

Heads-up:  But I did find this bat a little heavier than what Rawlings advertised. I wasn’t the only one to notice this issue, as a few other customers noted it in their reviews.

  • Produces more power and contact with a two ⅝” big barrel (for more big barrel baseball bats, click here to explore)
  • Ultra-thin handle for better bat control and feel
  • Beautiful black and electric blue design
  • Approved for all USA baseball leagues
  • Multiple buying options with seven sizes and three drops
  • Heavier bat than advertised
Bottom Line:  Aside from it being a heavy bat, I can’t find another thing to complain about with this option. It should meet most buyers’ expectations for a 10 year old baseball bat size model.

6. Wilson Sporting Goods Louisville Slugger 2019 USA Bat

Wilson’s Sporting Goods Louisville Slugger 2019 USA Bat is a lightweight marvel compared to heavier options like Rawlings’s ‎US1511-29 2022 USA Youth Bat. Its one-piece design allows for a much lighter swing weight.

Batters will also benefit from its LS Pro grip, which improves its user-friendliness. I’d be hard-pressed to find another light bat that offers this comfort level. It makes every plate appearance feel much easier, resulting in better performance.

Wilson did most 10-year-olds a massive solid with this product’s measurements, as well. Its 30″ length and -11 drop are standard fits for this age group. It’s no wonder why this lighter bat seems to be such a hit within youth leagues.

Buyers will be thrilled with its durable SL hyper alloy construction and large two ⅝” barrel. Both these components convey the bat’s capability of providing excellent long-term performance. They have already done wonders for my niece’s hitting by ensuring minimal loss of power in each swing.

I didn’t even mention the speed ballistic composite end cap. This end cap promotes quicker swinging speed and better overall control in simpler terms. It could be the difference between hitting a high fastball and striking out.

Heads-up:  But I do wish this model had a few color options. Sadly, it only comes in a rather basic gray coloring that doesn’t offer a spark or striking appearance.

  • Lightweight one-piece design for easier swinging
  • Better feel and comfort with an LS Pro grip
  • Ideal size for a 10-year-old (30″ bat and -11 drop)
  • Durable SL hyper alloy construction with a large two ⅝” barrel
  • Speed ballistic composite end cap offers quicker swing speed and better control
  • Lack of color options
Bottom Line:  But lacking color options isn’t enough to dismiss a model of this caliber. This very light bat couldn’t be more well-equipped to help a young player improve their batting performance.

7. Rawlings ‎USZI9 Impact USA Youth Bat Series

The Rawlings ‎USZI9 Impact USA Youth Bat Series occupies a special place on this list as one of our more affordable choices. Bargain hunters should pay close attention to whether this bat could fit their kid’s preferences.

I would wager it could as this bat also comes with several impressive performance features. An excellent example would be its carbon fiber barrel, which will provide extra pop and power. It’ll give some extra lift to that double to give teams an advantage.

Meanwhile, this option has a lightweight overall construction and end cap. Both these aspects combine to encourage an easier swinging process. So a batter will have no issues ripping this bat through the batting zone for a quick, powerful swing.

This lighter bat is known for being exceptionally versatile, as well. It earns this reputation with its ideal -9 drop and multiple size options that can work for ages 12 or under without issue. Buyers could undoubtedly do much worse when finding the best bat for their 10-year-old.

If these aspects weren’t enough, the orange and black color scheme is another strong selling point. It offers a bit more flair and style than various other similar options.

Heads-up:  But I wish this option was a bit more durable like its counterpart, the Rawlings’s USZR10 Raptor USA Baseball Bat. Sadly, it has a reputation of breaking down a bit earlier than expected when used regularly.

  • A more affordable option
  • Carbon fiber barrel to produce more pop and power
  • Extremely lightweight construction and end cap for easier swinging
  • Ideal -9 drop and size options for ages 12 or under
  • Stylish orange and black color scheme
  • Durability concerns
Bottom Line:  All in all, I feel its overall convenience and affordability are more valuable than its durability. But I could see how someone else may feel differently.

8. SZYT ‎200425 Wood Baseball Bat

Wood bats are looked at as a little out of place within the youth leagues. But this doesn’t mean kids can’t use them if they want. SZYT’s 20045 Wood Baseball Bat certainly makes a solid case for itself within these age groups with its impressive features.

I’d have to start with its high-quality, beech wood-based construction. It has proven to withstand regular usage without snapping or chipping. Of course, it won’t match a metal bat within this area, but it does provide a pretty long-life span compared to other wood models.

The product’s overall comfort level was another aspect to draw my attention. Most wood options provide a slight discomfort with either the grip or a soft knob. But this offers a comfortable feel when used inside the batter’s box.

Batters can then rely on its compact, lightweight design to offer an easy swinging process. It’ll allow kids to hit the ball with significant power and contact. In fact, it has proven to outpace other wood bats within this area, such as Farsler’s Wooden Bat.

Furthermore, it shows a bit of practicality with its ability to hit softballs and baseballs. This benefit only increased when considering its adaptable 25” length and 1.32-pound weight. Due to these features, it’ll meet the needs of many youth players looking to use a wood bat.

Heads-up:  But I did run into a few complaints about the bat’s packaging. In these cases, the product arrived chipped or beaten up within the shipping container. Luckily, I didn’t experience any issues with mine when first getting it.

  • Constructed from durable, high-quality beech wood
  • It fits comfortably into the batter’s hands
  • Easy to swing with a compact, lightweight design
  • Suitable for softball and baseball applications
  • Perfect size for many youth players, at 25 ” and 1.32 pounds
  • Packaging issues
Bottom Line:  Despite the packing issues, I can’t stop myself from recommending this wood bat. Its impressive construction and comfortable swinging process are too beneficial. It’d be a mistake for a customer not to consider this bat.

9. Marucci CAT9-10 USSSA Youth Bat

It’s hard to find a more well-equipped available bat for 10-year-olds than Marucci’s CAT9-10 USSSA Youth Bat. For instance, this brand puts the AZR alloy material through a 3-stage thermal treatment process to ensure it’s more effective and comfortable than its competitors.

I can’t do anything but confirm their attempts as successful based on my experience. It even manages to minimize any stinging on a batter’s hands with its AV2 anti-vibration knob. Since using this bat, my nephew has only complained once about any stinging issues.

The reliable one-piece design certainly doesn’t hurt its case, either. It has a large two ¾ barrel for the extra power and pop that every kid wants. It produces a much broader and impactful sweet spot than other available models like my nephew’s old Rawlings baseball bat.

Marucci made sure the bat offered a balanced feel, as well. This aspect allows for a more even distribution of power and contact. Therefore, it becomes a solid option for both batters looking for singles and others wanting the home runs.

Lastly, it offers two convenient aspects with its four size options (28″-31″, -10 drop for each) and USSSA certification approval. These components show that Marucci wanted to make their bat as user-friendly as possible.

Heads-up:  Sadly, this Marucci bat is another one from the brand with a hefty price tag. It’s the most costly option on our entire list. So it can create quite the dilemma for anyone who isn’t looking to spend a great deal on baseball bats.

  • Effective and comfortable AZR alloy construction (3-stage thermal treatment)
  • Minimizes stinging with an AV2 anti-vibration knob
  • Reliable one-piece design, featuring a large two ¾” barrel
  • Balanced feel offers excellent distribution of contact and power
  • Four convenient size options with -10 drop (28″ – 31″)
  • With USSSA certification stamp
  • A more costly option
Bottom Line:  But it’s hard to argue against someone who would be willing to pay this high price tag. I certainly could talk myself into doing so. It would be difficult for me to turn this option down when searching for the best baseball bats.

10. Axe Bat 2019 Origin (-8) USA Bat

Our last option, Axe Bat 2019 Origin (-8) USA Bat, has a fair share of distinctive aspects to distinguish itself from its competitors. One of my favorite examples would be its patented Axe handle that allows batters complete control over their swings.

I tested it out to see how much difference it would make compared to my nephew’s Wilson Sporting Goods bat. It ended up being pretty clear this model was on a different level. Honestly, it gave me a level of comfort that I hadn’t experienced with many other bats.

Some of this credit goes to its HyperWhip end cap, as well. This Axe Bat used this end cap to remove the extra weight of its tip. As a result, this bat can provide much quicker and more effective swings when facing the toughest pitchers.

Batters can get a little extra pop on their swings with the bat’s one-piece, two ⅝” LP1 alloy barrel. In fact, multiple customers reported this aspect provides kids with more power on their swings.

Based on how many balls I’ve had to retrieve within areas my nephew never hit before getting this bat, I’d have to concur. Moreover, the vibrant yellow/black color scheme and USAbat certification (for Little Leagues and other contests) are the cherries on top of this metaphorical cake.

Heads-up:  But one of the most remarkable things about this option is its lack of customer complaints. I couldn’t find a single person with a bad thing to say about this bat. Axe Bat certainly did an excellent job crafting a model that matches their customer’s needs.

  • Excellent bat control with patented Axe handle
  • HyperWhip end cap removed extra weight to produce quicker swings
  • One-piece design with LP1 alloy and two ⅝” barrel for an extra pop
  • Vibrant yellow and black color scheme
  • USAbat standard certification (USA Baseball, Little Leagues, and more)
  • None at the moment
Bottom Line:  Given its lack of apparent flaws, it’s hard to form an argument against buying this option. There’s no real reason not to purchase this bat if it checks off a buyer’s preferences and needs.

What to Look for When Buying Baseball Bat for 10 Year Old

Finding the right bat for 10-year-old players can be a little challenging. But I’ll make the process much easier by discussing the most crucial factors. These discussions will ensure the entire buying experience becomes a simple, effortless one.

  • Weight

Baseball bats are available at various weights. So parents will need to figure out what bat weight best meshes with their 10-year-old’s batting style. As a result, I’d recommend trying out different options at a local sporting goods store before buying one.

These tests are the best way to determine if a young player can handle a certain weight. You should start by having them try to hold the bat in their batting stance for 45 seconds. If they can’t do this, try going down an ounce or two until they pass the test.

Once you find an acceptable heft, find suitable bats with the same weight online. Sadly, sporting goods stores won’t have a wide variety of options. So it’s best to do the tests and use the information to find a high-quality bat through online stores.

  • Grip

Comfort is a massive component of a successful batting experience. In other words, your 10-year-old will need bats with an extra comfy grip to promote a better swing. So it becomes essential to pay close attention to each option’s grip and comfort level.

I’d recommend choosing a bat with an extra durable end cap. It’ll provide more stability for your kid’s hands when swinging at an incoming pitch. You’ll also want a grip made from leather to avoid any peeling off or other issues.

Reading through customer reviews should help evaluate each bat’s grip. These resources will paint a clear picture of how comfortable swinging is with every option. Honestly, it’s often a massive complaint when the grip doesn’t meet a buyer’s expectations.

  • Length

Baseball bats will also come in different bat lengths. Finding the right one for your kid can be challenging as there’s a significant variation within the marketplace. So this aspect is another one that parents will need their kids to test out before buying.

I’d suggest testing a bat out by placing the knob at your kid’s chest to measure. If they can reach and grab the bat barrel, it should be a solid fit for their needs. You’ll need to move up or down in inches if they can’t reach the barrel or the bat’s too small.

Another test would be seeing whether the bat reaches their hip when held to the ground. If it does, this test would indicate it’s a suitable model. But if it goes past or comes to their waist, look for a smaller option.

  • Drop Weight

A bat drop weight is an aspect most parents won’t know when buying youth baseball bats. It refers to the negative number attached to the bat, sometimes even within its product name. In any case, this number indicates the difference between your bat’s length and weight.

Most young baseball players between ages 7 and 12 find themselves using bats with a drop of -10. This allows the model to provide solid length while being extra lightweight. But I’d still try out a few different drops to ensure your 10-year-old feels comfortable using it.

  • League Rules and Classifications

Parents will need to consult the league rules before buying a bat. After all, you don’t want to waste money on products your kid’s baseball league won’t accept. Thankfully, most youth leagues follow one of the following classifications for bat eligibility:

    • USSSA Bats

Most leagues up to 14 years old will require USSSA bats. These products offer batters a little more power than the second classification, USA bats. In addition, parents can expect USSSA bats to have barrels up to 2 ¾ inches and offer a better bat performance factor. So it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a suitable one for your 10-year-old.

    • USA Bats

A few leagues will require young players to only use bats with a USA baseball stamp. It’s a simple way of keeping everything on a level playing field for all the players. But honestly, I’d recommend only using these USA baseball bats if your league requires them. USSSA bats will offer better batting performance for your 10-year-old.

What Type of Bat Should a 10 Year Old Use

Bats for 10-year-olds are usually one of four types: alloy bats, composite bats, wood bats, and hybrid bats. Each one comes with its own set of pros and cons. However, most parents find alloy bats to be their best option when buying youth baseball bats.

For instance, these options are a little less expensive than their counterparts. But parents shouldn’t think this handicaps their performance. On the contrary, they’re usually made from aluminum that can help players get faster bat speed and learn the proper swinging technique.

It’s why most buyers find these aluminum bats to be the best option available for young players. Their only flaws are they’re a bit less durable than a composite bat and offer less grip than half/half models.

What Size Baseball Bat Does a 10 Year Old Need

Based on the tests mentioned previously, most 10-year-olds do best with bats between 27 and 30 inches with a drop of -10. But I wouldn’t take these measurements as gospel as you should still do the proper tests to determine what size bat for 10 year old works best.

How Do I Know When My Child Is Ready to Move Up a Size

Whether your child needs a bigger bat will depend on their growth rate and swing. I’d suggest measuring their bat’s size every few years. If it doesn’t reach their hip anymore, you should look at buying a new one for them.

You’ll also notice a difference in their swing when they’ve outgrown the bat. It’ll almost seem like they’re swinging too fast or not reaching where they need to at the plate.

Finding the best baseball bat for 10 year old players should now be relatively simple. Honestly, if you stick with our buying guide, I can’t imagine there being much difficulty. It should’ve helped lessen the number of choices down to a more manageable amount.

But if you still have questions, don’t hesitate to use our comment section. I’ll make sure to answer each post as soon as possible. Thanks for reading!
